The villages of Brandeston and Cretingham are between four and five miles south west of the historic market town of Framlingham, with its famous castle (Mary Queen of Scots was a prisoner there) and full complement of shops and pubs.  Brandeston and Cretingham are surrounded by rolling countryside and each has a popular pub, a small village shop and a church.  The Cretingham Golf Club is open to non-members and has a pay and play course.

The Potash is situated between Brandeston and Cretingham in a large garden, with views over fields and the upper reaches of the River Deben.  The house is detached and was mainly constructed in the 16th century.  The roof is thatched and there are plenty of original period features, including exposed beams, wonky wooden floors, low ceilings and doorways.

The property is available for holiday letting when not required by the owner’s family and provides character accommodation for not more than eight people.

On the ground floor of the house there is a spacious living room with a wood-burning open fire, and grand piano; a dining room; a medium sized, traditional cottage style kitchen with ample storage space; a hall; a cloakroom with hand basin and WC.  The curved wooden staircase, which is fairly steep but with a good handrail, leads up to the first floor.  Here there is a double bedroom with ensuite bathroom with bath, hand held shower for hair washing, bidet, hand basin, WC and shaver point; a further double bedroom; a twin bedded room; and a family bathroom with bath, hand held shower for hair washing, wash hand basin, WC and shaver point.  A further flight of wooden stairs leads to the top bedroom where there are twin beds.

There is a double garage which is normally used for table tennis, etc, but otherwise has room for one car.  There is ample parking in the gravelled driveway.
