Locality

Fairhaven can be found in the tiny fishing hamlet of Felixstowe Ferry, located in the mouth of the River Deben, Suffolk. It is in an enviable coastal position overlooking the sea in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty on the Heritage Suffolk Coast and adjacent to a Site of Special Scientific Interest.

The hamlet has a feeling of nostalgia with its collection of cottages, houseboats and old fishermen's huts. Everything is within easy strolling distance including two pubs serving good food, a cafe, art gallery and fresh fish stalls.

There is a pebbly beach with a sandy stretch as the tide goes out to the seaward side and a jetty to the estuary side where the young and young at heart congregate in all weathers to drop their crabbing lines. During the summer months a foot ferry can take you and your bicycles over to Bawdsey Quay which boasts a sandy beach for the children and tea shop for the adults.

The Ferry is popular with sailors and golfers alike. The golf club was established in 1880 and is a true "links" course with keen golfers playing in all weathers. There is a water ski centre which offers lessons in the summer and welcomes visitors as well as the Felixstowe Ferry Sailing Club.

The cottage is well placed for touring Suffolk including the picturesque towns of Woodbridge, Aldeburgh (home of the Aldeburgh Festival), Southwold, Dunwich and Harwich. It is only half an hour's drive from Snape, famous for its all year round concerts. Close by is the burial ground at Sutton Hoo and Orford with its castle. Slightly further afield is Lavenham with its wonderfully preserved Tudor buildings and famous Guildhall and Long Melford, well known for Kentwell and Long Melford Halls.
